The Way Home

Traveling through life documenting what matters most to our home.

My Blue Eyed Baby

The girls and I took the opportunity to check out the houses on The Highland Lakes Garden Club Home Tour today. We saw some amazing ridge views and meticulously maintained gardens. All very inspiring! On the tour we got to stop at the Aldridge family home who has beautiful lake views, gorgeous hydrangeas flanking the yard, and their own private nature trail.

When I saw the garden full of blue hydrangeas blossoms, I asked Savannah to quickly pose for a picture and my mind quickly flashed back to a photo I took of her in our living room with hydrangeas when she was 2 months old. It was unplanned (and I had to modify her shirt color), but this image feels like the perfect recreation 19 years later!

After fishing this image off a hard drive, I remembered how pivotal moments like these were to inspiring my career as a photographer. After a friend blessed us with newborn pictures with Savannah, it gave me the drive to set up and try doing my own photo sessions with her each month of her 1st year. She was my very first portrait client!

You may look at this amateur image and laugh at the sheet thrown over the fireplace with cut hydrangeas from the back yard, with decent enough exposure from a pop up flash, but to me it was my foundation as a children’s portrait photographer.

Savannah we’ve learned a few things together through the years, but you will always be my blue eyed baby!

For this year’s Spoiled Rotten Photography Personal Project, my inspiration piece came from one of my own photos, that is the beginning of its own story.

The Next Ten Years

Around this time of year, I always reflect back on this compilation of Holiday Cards I produced for my parents over the years and thought it was time I started a new post to house the next 10 years of life at Arkadelphia Acres for my parents. Each year we continue the tradition of incorporating […]

The four of us were blessed to spend another week The four of us were blessed to spend another week experiencing a little bit of heaven on earth at FC Alabama Camp!

This year’s theme, “Not Home Yet,” was woven beautifully throughout the week—from the Bible classes to the world-travel-themed banquet. The singing and camper-led worship were especially powerful and uplifting.

One of the greatest joys of the week was knowing 22 precious souls put on Christ in baptism and were added to the Lord’s family.

I once again had a bird’s-eye view of camp life as one of the staff photographers, capturing the special moments, friendships, and memories made throughout the week.

Jonathan served as a counselor for a group of high school boys and probably got the least amount of sleep out of all of us!

Savannah helped my sister, Kathryn, with crafts and special events, while Sarah Beth was living her best camp life as a camper. She was thrilled to serve on the Alpha Club and work in the Coffee House this year. Sarah Beth brought her spirit and green energy to KO! It was no surprise she won the most unique banquet costume as the Statue of Liberty.

Throughout the week, staff members freely shared their talents, wisdom, and servant hearts with campers, making a lasting impact on so many lives.

As we leave camp encouraged and renewed, we’re reminded of the ultimate goal we all long for—to one day hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” ❤️
